New Creamery Opens in Williamsburg’s Historic Triangle

Gelato offerings at Udder Nonsense Creamery

News Summary

Udder Nonsense Creamery is set to launch at Market 5, offering unique gelato and soft cheeses made from local milk. This creamery is part of a larger wave of business growth in the Historic Triangle, alongside other expanding local businesses and upcoming retail developments.

Charles City, Virginia – A wave of business growth is taking shape in the Historic Triangle, highlighted by the upcoming launch of Udder Nonsense Creamery at the Market 5 complex next month. This creamery, founded by Steve Rose, Patti Cubstead, and Darin Durham, specializes in gelato and cheese made from milk sourced from their dairy farm in Charles City County.

Udder Nonsense Creamery, which opened its doors earlier this spring, has rapidly gained popularity with a unique lineup of gelato flavors. These include vanilla, strawberry, salted caramel pecan, chocolate, espresso, raspberry cheesecake, chocolate cherry cheesecake, and blueberry lemon cheesecake. In addition to gelato, the creamery also produces a range of soft cheeses.

The milk used in their products comes from three dairy cows named Harriett, Clarabell, and Hokie, which these owners tend at their farm. The creamery’s unique offering of gelato stands out from traditional ice cream, as it utilizes distinct production methods and flavor combinations. Cubstead, who oversees the creamery’s production, is known for her eagerness to experiment with flavors, hinting at the possible introduction of spiced fig gelato in the fall. Their products are already available at local establishments including Indian Fields Tavern, Dizzy Izzy’s, and Burgers on the Edge.

While a specific opening date for their designated space at Market 5 hasn’t been announced yet, plans are underway to allow customers to preorder products online with the option to pick them up directly at the farm, located at 12800 The Glebe Lane.

In addition to Udder Nonsense Creamery, other local businesses are also expanding. The Junkluggers and Remix Market Williamsburg have relocated to a larger facility at 7812 Richmond Road. This strategic move is designed to enhance their capacity for processing items and to bolster support for local charities. Co-owner Zach Kirkpatrick remarked that the new location will improve operational efficiencies and increase visibility for their brand.

Further noting the area’s growth, Nordstrom Inc., based in Seattle, has announced plans to open a Nordstrom Rack store in Williamsburg. Scheduled for 2026, the store will be situated along Monticello Avenue in the Settlers Market shopping complex. This Nordstrom Rack location will encompass 25,000 square feet and will offer discounts of up to 70% on a variety of products. For context, there are currently seven other Nordstrom Rack locations operating across Virginia.

This surge in business activity underscores the revitalization efforts in the Historic Triangle, as new developments and expansions bring diverse offerings to the community. Udder Nonsense Creamery represents not just a fresh option for residents and visitors but also the potential for growth and innovation in the local economy.
