Riverwalk Landing, which opened on May 28, 2005, has become a cornerstone of the Yorktown community. The waterfront area was previously in decline, but redevelopment efforts transformed it into a vibrant hub featuring shopping and dining venues. The project included the construction of nine buildings providing over 21,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, performance areas, and a parking terrace, along with enhancements to protect the shoreline through engineering efforts including revetments, breakwaters, and sand nourishment.

Part of the development included relocating historic structures such as the Freight Shed to be used as event spaces, adding a unique touch to the area. The initial investment for Riverwalk Landing was approximately $24 million, a significant commitment that has paid off in creating a beloved community destination.

The grand opening celebration in 2005 attracted much attention, featuring three days of promotional activities, including live music and fireworks. The upcoming 20th-anniversary celebration promises to create a similar sense of community and excitement, honoring two decades of Riverwalk Landing’s impact on Yorktown.
