Jamestown, Rhode Island – Samuel A. Manchester, a respected U.S. Navy veteran and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, at the age of 78. He spent his final moments surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to both his country and community.

Born on March 26, 1947, in Newport, R.I., Manchester served his country proudly during his military career. Following his service in the Navy, he became a valued member of the American Legion, where he actively participated in community efforts and events.

In his professional life, Samuel worked for many years as a painter and sandblaster at General Dynamics Electric Boat at Quonset Point. His commitment to his job and contributions to the field earned him respect among colleagues and peers before he eventually retired.

Samuel was much more than just an accomplished veteran and dedicated worker. He was a family-oriented individual who treasured his loved ones and was active in local organizations. He was a long-time member of the former Portuguese American Citizens Club in Jamestown, where he found joy in recreational activities, including playing shuffleboard with friends and neighbors.

He is survived by a large and loving family, which includes his step-children: Frank E. Morse and his wife Lillian, Ritchie F. Morse and his wife Leslie, Randy A. Morse and his wife Debra, Tammy L. Olszewski and her husband Frank, and step-daughter-in-law, Holly Morse. Samuel also cherished his legacy through 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

His passing is also mourned by step-daughters Brenda F. Crawley and her husband Ronald, Donna M. Hanks and her husband Michael, along with his step-son, Robert E. Morse. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carlton T. Sr. and Ruth E. (Parker) Manchester, as well as his devoted wife, Barbara (Ames) Morse-Manchester.

A graveside service with military honors is scheduled to be held at Cedar Cemetery in Jamestown on October 10, 2025, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory may make memorial contributions to American Legion Charities at P.O.
