Preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Melvin Varble, Sr., and brothers Melvin Varble Jr. and Mack Varble, Mike is survived by his devoted daughter, Alexa Gail Varble, and his granddaughter, Abigail Rose Varble. He leaves behind a loving family that includes surviving siblings Billy Varble (Sharon), Kevin Varble (Julie), and Keith Varble (Tammy), alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and loyal friends.

A Passion for Mechanics and Towing

Mike began his career as a mechanic at Steele’s Garage before venturing into towing. It was in this field that he found his true passion. He eventually founded his own company, Mike’s Towing and Recovery, where he gained a reputation for his dedicated service and exceptional skill. Mike particularly enjoyed the challenges of towing and often had captivating stories about the wrecks he encountered and the people he met during his jobs. He became a mentor to many aspiring drivers, including Aaron Brickley and Johnny Wilson, sharing his expertise in tow truck operations and crisis management.

Life Beyond Work

Outside of work, Mike was known for living life to the fullest. He had a zest for adventure, with a particular love for hunting, often reminiscing about his trips to Northern Virginia where he would go turkey hunting with friends. He was also fond of reading and frequently immersed himself in books while waiting for towing calls. His sense of humor and knack for storytelling allowed him to entertain others, often making them laugh for hours.

Later Years and Faith

Mike retired from the towing business in 2018, following a fulfilling career of helping the community. In retirement, he started attending Christ Community Church in Toano, Virginia. There, he found faith and committed his life to Christ, which became a significant aspect of his later years. The family expresses gratitude to Elizabeth Janette Wilder and her children, Chris and Jennifer Walls, for their unwavering support and friendship during Mike’s final years.

Memorial Details

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 11 AM at Christ Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the church, located at 9001 Richmond Rd, Toano, VA 23168. This gathering will provide an opportunity for family and friends to honor Mike’s memory and the impact he had on their lives.

Mike Varble leaves behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and service to the community that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
