Norfolk, Virginia – The Old Dominion University (ODU) women’s soccer team is set to welcome an impressive eight-member recruiting class for the 2025 season, as announced by head coach Angie Hind. The coaching staff has expressed enthusiasm about the talent and winning mentality that each recruit brings, believing that they will contribute significantly to the program’s ongoing success.

This new recruiting class aims to enhance the team’s quality and depth, particularly in preparation for a challenging schedule ahead. The recruits possess not only strong athletic skills but also demonstrate a keen desire to be part of ODU’s soccer program and help drive it forward.

Highlighting the New Talent

Among the notable recruits is Ashley Economopoulos, a freshman forward from Lower Dauphin High School. Economopoulos is recognized for her considerable achievements, having won the 2025 John Travers Award and being named an All-American in her senior year. Her stellar high school career also includes All-State selections in both 2022 and 2024, along with her experience with the Penn Fusion Club Soccer Team.

Another key addition is Finja Kappmeier, a midfielder and wingback from Germany. Kappmeier previously competed in the 2. Bundesliga Women’s league with Gutersloh and played a vital role in winning the U17 Bundesliga west/southwest title in 2022. In the 2024-25 league season, she made 25 appearances, showcasing her experience and skill.

Koto Davis comes from Towson High School and played for Maryland United FC in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL). Davis boasts a solid track record with honors such as All-County, All-State, All-South, and All-American recognitions. Her international experience includes travels to multiple countries, emphasizing her global perspective on the sport.

Maddy Telmer, a transfer from the Saint Peter’s Peacocks, is another exciting addition, having made ten starts in her last season and scoring one goal. Telmer captained her high school team and was nominated for the Young Player of the Year in the Singapore Women’s Premier League.

Defensive reinforcement comes from Emmaline Bell, a goalkeeper from Loch Raven High School, who has achieved numerous accolades, including All-Division, All-County, and All-State honors. Bell is also recognized for her academic achievements as a member of the National Honor Society.

Other recruits include Dylan McEntarfer, a defender from Kellam High School with First Team All-State honors, and Ceci Riggs, a versatile midfielder from Lafayette High School who has also received multiple recognitions, including First Team All-State. Additionally, Navi Kawesi-Mukooza adds to the defensive line, having been awarded MVP in the Independent School League and demonstrating a strong level of enthusiasm for the game.

Commitment to Academic and Athletic Excellence

The recruits not only excel in athletics but also maintain strong academic backgrounds. Many have shown the capability to balance the rigorous demands of academics with their sporting commitments. This commitment reflects the program’s emphasis on an inclusive and supportive environment where teamwork, competitiveness, and community engagement are fundamental values.

The incoming class signifies ODU’s dedication to developing a legacy in women’s soccer with aspirations of competing at a national level. Coach Hind has acknowledged the importance of attracting local talent and fostering homegrown players, which aligns with the program’s long-term vision.

In addition to recruitment, ODU women’s soccer has actively engaged with the community through initiatives like “Monarch Soccer Sisters,” designed to connect current players with young soccer enthusiasts in the area. This program exemplifies the team’s commitment to building a supportive community around the sport.

As the ODU women’s soccer program prepares to embrace this new recruiting class, the future looks bright for both the athletes and the university’s soccer ambitions.
