The Sunshine Invitational will feature a wide range of universities, including Boston College, Brown, Central Florida, Dartmouth, Florida Tech, Harvard, High Point, Jacksonville, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan State, Northeastern, Nova Southeastern, Rollins, USF, Alabama, Florida, Iowa, Louisville, UMass, Miami, North Carolina, Tampa, Tulsa, Washington, West Virginia, and Yale. This diverse array of competitors showcases the level of talent and competition ODU will face.
The racing schedule for ODU is structured around a time trial format for the 1V8+, 2V8+, and 1V4+ boats to determine their seeding before advancing to heat events. The time trials will begin on Friday at 2 p.m., starting with the 2V4+ team, which will race between 2:50 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. Subsequently, the 1V4+ will make its appearance from 4:30 p.m. to 4:50 p.m., followed by heats for the 2V8+ from 5:00 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. The 1V8+ will conclude the day’s events with races scheduled from 5:50 p.m. to 6:20 p.m.
On Saturday, ODU’s teams will compete for either the Petite Final or the Grand Final across several events. The schedule includes the 2V4+ Petite Final at 8 a.m. and the Grand Final shortly thereafter at 8:08 a.m. The 1V4+ races will take place between 9:40 a.m. and 10:10 a.m., splitting time between possible finals rounds. Additionally, the 2V8+ Finals are slated for 10:10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., while the highly anticipated 1V8+ Finals are set to begin at 11 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m.
Following the Sunshine Invitational, ODU’s rowing team will prepare for their next challenge at the George Washington Invitational Regatta on April 11-12, which will take place on the Potomac River. This upcoming event is expected to further test the team and add to their competitive experience for the season.
