Legacy Life Books Launches to Preserve Family Stories

News Summary

Legacy Life Books, co-founded by Adam and Canaan Kennedy, has launched in Williamsburg, offering a memoir service to help families document their unique stories. With a focus on capturing individual voices, the service includes extensive interviews and custom-designed keepsakes to honor loved ones. Inspired by personal loss, this endeavor aims to ensure that cherished family narratives are preserved for future generations.

Williamsburg, a historic city known for its rich heritage, is now home to a new venture aimed at preserving family legacies. Legacy Life Books, a memoir service co-founded by father-son duo Adam and Canaan Kennedy, officially launched in September. The business is designed to help families capture and preserve their unique stories for future generations, providing a meaningful way to honor loved ones.

Adam Kennedy, who has a robust background in journalism, brings a wealth of experience to the project. Over his career, he has interviewed more than 1,000 people, which has honed his ability to elicit compelling narratives. His son, Canaan Kennedy, grew up captivated by these interviews, particularly those with World War II and Vietnam veterans. Inspired by the life stories recounted during these sessions, Canaan pursued a master’s degree in screenwriting and production in Milan, Italy and sought to turn his passion for storytelling into a business.

The inspiration for Legacy Life Books stemmed from personal loss. Following the death of Canaan’s grandfather, he lamented the missed opportunity to document his grandfather’s life experiences. This experience ignited a desire not only to preserve his family’s stories, but also to ensure that others have the chance to share their narratives before it’s too late.

Legacy Life Books offers a 90-day project timeline during which it captures and compiles narratives from clients into a tangible keepsake. The service is committed to highlighting the importance of individual voices through extensive interviews, which serve as the foundation for every project. Clients are encouraged to provide photographs that can be digitally enhanced and restored, contributing to the personal touch of the final product.

The process begins with a consultation that helps the team understand the specifics of each client’s needs, including the desired number of interviewees. Once established, a two-hour interview session is scheduled, with packages starting at four hours of interviews. The initial package is designed to produce a book roughly the size of 200 pages, which includes the enhancement of 30 to 60 photographs.

After conducting the interviews, Legacy Life Books employs an editing team that transcribes the conversations and formats them into a bespoke book layout. Clients receive proofs of the book for approval, alongside a custom-designed dust jacket that fits their vision. Upon approval, the book is printed and delivered in a elegant keepsake box, complete with hard copies and a hard drive that contains the recorded interviews for long-lasting remembrance.

The mission of Legacy Life Books transcends the mere act of selling books; it is about capturing the essence of family stories that can be cherished and passed down through generations. The service is positioned as a way for clients to reflect upon their loved ones, ensuring that their legacy continues to live on. Families interested in this service can learn more and explore options through the company’s official website, where they can begin their journey of preserving cherished memories.
