Yorktown, VA – Kevin Mitchell Beachum Passes Away at Age 40 After Inspiring Battle with Brain Tumor
Kevin Mitchell Beachum, a 40-year-old resident of Yorktown, Virginia, passed away on July 16, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. His passing marks the end of a courageous six-year battle against a grade 2 diffuse astrocytoma brain tumor, a diagnosis he received in 2019. Kevin is remembered for his commitment to raising awareness about brain cancer and for his relentless spirit throughout his treatment journey.
Born on August 17, 1984, in Norfolk, Virginia, Kevin was the son of Peggy Gayle Beachum and Steve Eugene Beachum. Throughout his life, he remained rooted in Virginia, spending his formative years in Norfolk where he graduated from Granby High School. An honor roll student, he achieved notable milestones during his youth, including earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America in 2002.
In pursuit of a technical career, Kevin attended the Advanced Technology Institute (ATI), where he earned a degree in automotive and diesel mechanics in 2004. Shortly after, he met Aislyn Ryan Beachum in October 2006, and they married in 2009. Together, they welcomed two children: daughter Maggie in 2010 and son Steven in 2014. In 2015, the family moved to York County, embracing family life, which brought Kevin immense joy and fulfillment.
Kevin is remembered as a devoted husband, father, son, and brother who showed unwavering commitment to his family’s needs. His interests included archery, hunting, fishing, tinkering with cars and Legos, and playing games, all activities that reflected his fun-loving spirit. Following his diagnosis, Kevin participated in various research and treatment options, ensuring that students were involved in his treatment to help raise awareness about brain tumors and cancer research initiatives.
Through his illness, Kevin received care from Dr. David Schiff and a dedicated team of specialists across medical facilities in Virginia. He was medically retired from his position at MDV Spartannash in Norfolk in 2024, after more than 18 years of service, having started his career as a warehouse selector and advancing to a Receiving Warehouse Supervisor. His colleagues and friends recognized him not just for his work ethic but also for his ability to uplift those around him.
Kevin is survived by his loving daughter Maggie, son Steven, as well as his brother Christopher Beachum of Norfolk and sister Kimberly Beachum of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by numerous relatives including aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and dear friends who cherished him deeply.
