Williamsburg, Virginia

Keith A. Wallace, a respected businessman and dedicated community volunteer, passed away at the age of 82 on Sunday, June 15, 2025. Wallace’s contributions to various communities, particularly in Tryon, North Carolina, and later in Williamsburg, Virginia, were characterized by his commitment to service and helping others.

Born and raised in western Pennsylvania, Wallace was a well-educated individual, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Following his college years, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, which marked the beginning of a life dedicated to both service and professional achievement.

Wallace enjoyed a notable career in the retail industry, primarily with JCPenney. He worked throughout the Midwest and then at the corporate headquarters in New York City, contributing to the marketing department. His managerial role extended to overseeing several JCPenney stores in New Jersey and New York before he retired in 1997. He then relocated to Tryon, North Carolina, with his wife, Carol “Sue” Wallace, who preceded him in death.

In Tryon, Keith and Sue became entwined in their local community. Keith distinguished himself as a volunteer firefighter with the Green Creek Volunteer Fire Rescue, where his efforts included writing grants aimed at improving resources for both the fire department and the Polk County Public Schools Transportation Department. His dedication to local causes mirrored his lifelong ethos of commitment and service.

In September 2021, Wallace moved to Williamsburg, Virginia, where he continued to engage with the community. A man of many interests, he had a passion for outdoor work—including mowing his lawn—and loved to tinker in his garage workshop. Known for his ability to fix anything, he recently ventured into welding as a new hobby. His knack for creativity extended to his fondness for attending estate and garage sales, where he would often purchase lots for a single antique item.

Wallace was a devoted family man, known lovingly as “PopPop” to his grandchildren. He took great joy in playing competitive games such as Monopoly and foosball and frequently served as a supportive “Uber” driver for his grandkids, attending their various activities and ensuring they felt cherished. He is survived by his son, Sean Wallace (Daria Darczak), and his daughters, Kimberly Wallace (Nikolai Andresky) and Kelly Franzone (Peter). His grandchildren—Sarah, Jason, Samantha, Catherine, Rufus, and Josephine—along with his beloved grand-dogs, will carry on his legacy.

Memorial and Legacy

In remembrance of Keith A. Wallace, an open house celebration will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This gathering aims to honor his favorite activities and allow family and friends to share cherished memories of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family has announced the establishment of a scholarship in Keith’s memory for a graduating senior from WJCC in 2026. Monetary donations can be made directly to the family or mailed to P.O. Box 6222, Williamsburg, VA 23188.

Keith A. Wallace’s impact on those who knew him can be summed up by his dependable nature and proactive planning, which resonated through both his personal and professional life. As he is fondly remembered by family and friends, his legacy of community spirit and caring will remain an integral part of his story.
