News Summary

York County officials are implementing temporary traffic changes and road closures in Historic Yorktown for the upcoming Fourth of July celebration. Several streets will be closed to vehicles throughout the day, especially during the parade, which runs from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. Free parking will be offered at various locations, and the Yorktown Trolley will have a modified route to accommodate attendees. Aiming for a smooth event, officials encourage residents and visitors to familiarize themselves with parking options and traffic patterns.

Yorktown – York County officials have announced a set of temporary traffic changes and road closures for Historic Yorktown in preparation for the annual Fourth of July celebration. These modifications will impact local traffic flow and parking availability in the area, especially during the festive events planned for the day.

Starting early in the morning, several streets will be closed to vehicular traffic throughout the day, with more specific road closures occurring from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. for the Fourth of July parade. Residents and visitors should plan ahead to ensure they can navigate the area safely and comfortably.

To assist those attending the celebrations, free parking will be accessible at multiple locations, including:

  • York Hall
  • York-Poquoson Courthouse
  • County Administration Building
  • Riverwalk Landing Parking Terrace
  • Yorktown Battlefield Victory Center
  • Various public parking lots throughout Yorktown

Transportation within Yorktown will also be modified for the day. The Yorktown Trolley will operate on a revised route from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This service will allow attendees to move about town more easily during the celebrations. For those using this public transport option, real-time tracking is available through the ETA Spot App.

For evening events, parking will open at 4 p.m. at the Yorktown Battlefield, which is approximately one mile away from the waterfront. Attendees should note that this route includes sections of uneven terrain and may require some physical exertion. Moreover, the Battlefield parking will cease operations at 8:30 p.m. or as soon as parking capacity is reached, necessitating timely arrival for those planning to park there.

Handicapped and special assistance parking will be designated at Yorktown Middle School, available from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Individuals requiring assistance may bring one designated escort. It is important that these users check in by 7 p.m. to secure a shuttle to the waterfront. The shuttle service will return from the Yorktown Waterfront to Yorktown Middle School between 9:45 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Notably, the shuttle will not operate between 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., coinciding with the fireworks show, during which attendees should plan accordingly to ensure safe passage.

This year’s Fourth of July celebration is expected to draw a large crowd, and residents are urged to familiarize themselves with these traffic patterns and parking options to enhance their festive experience. The county’s transportation and public safety departments are gearing up to manage the anticipated influx of visitors and maintain a smooth flow of the day’s activities.
