News Summary

FISH, a nonprofit organization in Williamsburg, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a charity Costume Sale. Held at William & Mary’s Sadler Center, attendees can shop for costumes and more while supporting essential services for the community. The event includes a 50/50 cash lottery and invites participation from volunteers and shoppers alike, highlighting community engagement and the spirit of giving.

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – FISH, a dedicated nonprofit organization in Williamsburg, is marking its 50th anniversary this October with a special celebration and a charity Costume Sale, an event designed to benefit the community and fund the organization’s essential services. The event will be held at William & Mary’s Sadler Center, specifically in the Tidewater A & B rooms.

The Costume Sale kicks off with a Twilight Sale on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 8 PM to 11 PM. The main sale follows the next day on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 10 AM to 5 PM. Attendees can expect a wide range of items including costumes, formals, vintage clothing, holiday sweaters, shoes, hats, accessories, and jewelry. Recognizing the importance of accessibility, reserved parking will be available for non-campus shoppers at the Old Dominion Lot and Stadium Lot during the sale.

In addition to shopping, guests will have an opportunity to participate in a 50/50 cash lottery during the event. Lottery tickets will be available for just $1, with half of the proceeds going to the winner and the remaining half supporting FISH’s operations.

The Costume Sale not only provides festive and fun attire but also plays a critical role in supporting FISH’s local initiatives. The organization operates primarily through a network of volunteers who contribute their time and effort to deliver services that include care closets and mobile food banks. Proceeds raised during the event will help fund these services, aiding with expenses such as facility rent and the procurement of new items, including underwear and specialty sizes for children.

The event is made possible through the efforts of William & Mary’s Catholic Campus Ministry student group, which collaborates with community volunteers to ensure the success of the sale. This partnership embodies the spirit of community engagement, as both campus and local residents come together to support a cause that benefits many.

FISH encourages attendees not only to shop but also to unleash their imagination and creativity in finding unique pieces that can enhance their wardrobe. This year’s sale includes donations that go beyond basic necessities, showcasing a wide variety of fun and distinctive items that reflect the generosity of the community.

Past Costume Sales have significantly impacted the organization’s ability to serve its mission, with funds raised directly contributing to the provision of critical resources for those in need. The annual event is known as one of FISH’s largest fundraisers, enabling the organization to continue its vital work in the Williamsburg area.

Volunteers looking to get involved in this significant community event can reach out to Susan Zickel via email to offer their assistance. The combined efforts of volunteers and attendees during the Costume Sale will help ensure that FISH can sustain and enhance its programs, making a positive difference in the lives of many families.

As FISH prepares to celebrate its rich history and plan for the future, community support will be more important than ever. The organization looks forward to welcoming both new and returning shoppers to this festive occasion aimed at fostering community spirit and addressing local needs.
