Ebo Fauber, a prominent architect and community advocate from Lynchburg, VA, has passed away, leaving a lasting impact through his architectural designs and service initiatives. He was a dedicated figure in improving his community, known for founding various organizations and contributing to environmental and social causes. Fauber’s legacy is marked by his commitment to thoughtful design and mentorship, affecting the lives of many residents. A wake and memorial celebration will honor his contributions to the community.

Lynchburg, VA – Ebo Fauber, a distinguished architect and revered community leader, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable contributions to both architecture and service. Born Joseph Everette Fauber III on March 15, 1938, in Lynchburg, Fauber dedicated his life to enhancing his community through his professional expertise and philanthropic efforts.

The architect’s formal career began at Vosbeck & Vosbeck in Alexandria, VA, in 1963 after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Architecture. Fauber’s passion for architecture took root during childhood visits to Colonial Williamsburg with his mother. Encouraged by his father’s involvement in restoration projects, he emerged as a significant figure in architectural design upon returning to Lynchburg in 1970 to establish Fauber Architects, later renamed Dominion 7.

Fauber’s architectural work embraced a variety of projects, including tailored homes, educational facilities, and animal shelters, reflecting his commitment to thoughtful and community-centered design. Throughout his career, he was recognized for integrating environmental stewardship in his work and advocating for innovative solutions that enhanced community well-being.

A devoted family man, Fauber is survived by his two daughters, Reed and Elizabeth, and his two grandchildren, Piers and Ainsley. He shared a long-lasting marriage of 35 years with Georgia Willis Fauber, with their wedding being an exceptional event held at the Rotunda of the University of Virginia, officiated by Norman Moon. Fauber also enjoyed spending time with his brothers, Rodger and Stuart, as well as his four nieces.

Beyond architecture, Fauber was known for his deep community involvement. He founded the John Lynch Society in 1970 and the POETS Society in 2012, which aimed to strengthen connections among community members. His commitment to fostering mentorship for youth was evident in the co-founding of ARC Central Virginia in the 1970s, aimed at enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Fauber was instrumental in the establishment of the FRIENDS of Cliff Asbury, which offers support and mentorship to students attending private schools in Virginia. Committed to animal welfare, he also supported Brook Hill Farm, an organization that rescues horses and uplifts teenagers facing difficulties.

As a community planner, he played a vital role in the development of the Blackwater Creek Trail and Bikeway in Lynchburg, enhancing recreational opportunities for residents. Additionally, Fauber contributed to the inception of the James River Batteau Festival in 1985, an annual event celebrating the cultural and historical significance of the James River over eight days.

Fauber’s professional accomplishments were recognized with multiple gubernatorial appointments from Virginia governors from 1989 to 2011. His unique distinction of serving simultaneously on the Virginia Licensing Board and NCARB is unprecedented in their histories, showcasing his influence in the architectural field.

In honor of his enduring legacy, a Wake will be held on September 7, 2025, from 1 to 3 PM at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, followed by a Memorial Celebration at Brook Hill Farm on September 8, 2025, at 4:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to remember Fauber and his contributions to the community.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fauber’s memory to Brook Hill Farm, FRIENDS of Cliff Asbury, or The ARC of Central Virginia, reflecting his commitment to improving the lives of those around him. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory in Lynchburg is assisting the family during this time.
