The investigation began after an anonymous tip, and messages indicating planned encounters were found on the minor’s phone. The school district confirmed her former coaching position but stated there was no evidence of misconduct on school grounds. The case raises concerns about the safety of minors in educational settings.

Williamsburg – A 44-year-old woman, Sarah Deaver, has been charged with attempting to engage in sexual activities with a minor. The investigation into Deaver began in August, following an anonymous tip regarding her inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old boy.

Deaver, a former junior varsity cheer coach at Jamestown High School, was arrested on Thursday and later bonded out the following day. The Williamsburg-James City County school district has confirmed that Deaver received a stipend for her coaching position in the fall of 2022. However, it remains unclear whether the minor involved in the allegations is a student at the school.

Investigations led by James City County police revealed that there is no evidence suggesting any criminal activities took place on school grounds. Furthermore, police have stated that the identity of the individual who alerted law enforcement is not being disclosed at this time.

Evidence gathered during the investigation included messages found on the boy’s phone, which reportedly contained plans for meetings intended for sexual encounters. During an interview with investigators, Deaver acknowledged sending “no more than 10” naked photographs of herself to the juvenile.

The school district’s spokesperson did not specify whether Deaver was still a coach at the time of her arrest or if the families of students had been informed of the situation. However, they emphasized that Deaver is not currently an employee of the school district and that the district is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Deaver is set to appear for her arraignment on October 25. This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding the safety and protection of minors, as communities seek to ensure proper safeguards against misconduct.

This recent incident reflects the increasing awareness and vigilance around the issue of adult-minor relationships, particularly in educational environments where the potential for such misconduct can have lasting impacts on victims and their families. As the investigation continues, the community remains focused on ensuring the welfare and safety of all students.
