Cathy graduated from Meredith College, an institution she cherished throughout her life. Her journey led her to Williamsburg in 1959, where she began her career working as an intern in the audio-visual department.
In a twist of fate, Cathy was introduced to Jim Short, a historian at Colonial Williamsburg, through a blind date. Their relationship blossomed despite an age difference of nearly twelve years. Jim proposed to Cathy on April Fools’ Day, a memory they both treasured. The couple formed a deep connection, often finishing each other’s thoughts and exchanging love notes. They welcomed two sons into their family and made their home in the Nicolson House on York Street. Unfortunately, Jim Short passed away in 1980, prompting Cathy to transition from a full-time homemaker to a working professional.
Embracing this new chapter in her life, Cathy became a realtor with Abbitt Realty, where she dedicated many years to helping clients navigate the real estate market.
