When most students relish their off days, you’ll find Aryan on the court, practicing diligently as he believes there’s always room for improvement. His commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed; the ODU Men’s Tennis Coach Dominik Mueller has identified him as the hardest-working player on the team. This isn’t just idle praise. Aryan consistently shows up an hour early to practice and frequently stays late to refine his skills. Such a work ethic is rare, and it clearly sets him apart from his peers.
Aryan’s journey is deeply intertwined with the rich tapestry of his family history. His father, Abdullah, immigrated from Iran, escaping an oppressive regime, while his mother, Ramona, hails from Romania. They both faced significant challenges when settling in Germany, including job struggles and adjusting to a new life. Aryan’s father experienced a tumultuous childhood, marked by the loss of his father at just 19 years old. With a large family of seven siblings, survival was never easy. Yet, he found solace and strength in tennis, starting as a ball boy and ultimately representing Iran on an international scale.
On the other hand, Aryan’s mother grew up in poverty on a small farm, which contrasts sharply with her current position as a nurse. These stories of resilience inspire Aryan every day, instilling in him a profound appreciation for his parents’ sacrifices. He recognizes that their struggles shaped the person he is today. Fluent in Persian and Romanian, and proficient in English, Aryan knows he is fortunate to have the support of his family and community.

He shares close bonds with his parents and has plans to visit them after the tennis season, ensuring that he maintains those vital connections.
This season, Aryan competes at No. 6 singles for the Monarchs, boasting an impressive record of 19 wins and 10 losses. His recent victory against Georgia Southern’s Matthew Mitchell, where he won 6-1, 6-1, was pivotal in helping his team secure the Sun Belt title. Despite being only 5-foot-10, his spirit and determination on the court are unmatched, proving that tenacity can triumph over physical stature.
With dreams of turning professional, Aryan is motivated by his parents’ relentless pursuit of better lives. He is not just an athlete; he’s also a dedicated student majoring in sport management and has made the Dean’s List, showing that he can excel both on and off the court. While he’s currently exploring his career options post-college, he draws inspiration from NFL player Justin Jefferson, reaching higher despite the odds.
Aryan recently took a bus trip to New Jersey just to see the Minnesota Vikings play, showcasing his dedication to following his role models. Living with teammates Codie and Connor Van Schalkwyk from Namibia fosters an enriching environment that embraces the team’s diverse backgrounds, strengthening their bond.
