This April, the charming city of Williamsburg will come alive with creativity as the Junior Woman’s Club of Williamsburg (JWCW) presents its 59th Annual Art on the Square on Sunday, April 27, 2025. This popular event promises to be a delightful showcase of local artistic talent and a fantastic opportunity for community members to come together.
Art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike are invited to stroll along Duke of Gloucester Street in historic Colonial Williamsburg, where the event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The open-air juried art show will feature around 100 fine artists exhibiting and selling their remarkable creations in various forms. From stunning pottery to captivating paintings, unique jewelry, and beautiful ceramics, there’s something for everyone to admire and purchase.
This year’s event is a wonderful opportunity to support local talent! Visitors can explore a wide range of handcrafted pieces, all while ensuring they are contributing to both local and regional artists. As you wander through the booths, you might discover that perfect piece to add to your collection or a thoughtful gift for someone special.
One highlight of the festival is the featured artist of the year, Gulay Berryman. She will be presenting her original painting titled “St. George Tucker House”, which is sure to draw attention. In an exciting twist, this original artwork will be raffled off at the event! Raffle tickets can be purchased both online prior to the event and at the JWCW tent on-site, making it easy for everyone to participate in the chance to own this stunning piece.
In addition to the raffle, commemorative poster prints of Berryman’s painting will also be on sale, allowing attendees to take home a piece of the event. And for those looking to frame their Art on the Square posters, Nora Bartlett of Walls Alive will be offering special framing pricing. A portion of all sales from this special offer will be donated back to JWCW.
Funds raised from artist booth fees, raffle ticket sales, and poster purchases will support local visual and performing arts organizations, which play a vital role in the community. A significant portion of the proceeds will contribute to the Richard E. DePaul Memorial Scholarship for Visual and Performing Arts, specifically designed to assist students pursuing college degrees in the arts. Scholarship applications are open until April 29, 2025, so be sure to spread the word among aspiring artists looking for support!
The best part? The Art on the Square event is completely free and open to the public! It’s a perfect way to spend a spring day surrounded by art, culture, and community spirit. So mark your calendar for April 27 and gather your friends and family for a day to remember! For more information, including a full list of participating artists, visit the JWCW website.
