Radford, Virginia—Alfred “Al” E. Snavley Jr. passed away on September 27, 2025, at the age of 70, following complications from diabetes and heart failure. His death marks the loss of a beloved husband, father, and friend who touched the lives of many.

Born on March 8, 1955, in Radford, Virginia, Al was the eldest son of Alfred “Talley” Snavley and Shirley Snavley. He graduated from Liberty High School and spent 30 years working for Heat and Frost Insulators Local 35 before retiring. Throughout his career, Al was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.

Al married Ruth Stephenson on July 2, 1977, and the couple celebrated 48 years of marriage, building a life together filled with love and shared experiences. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Snavley, their daughter Nancy, and her husband Eric Ensley, who reside in Canfield, Ohio. His family also includes sister-in-law Sara Snavley, nephew Josh Snavley and his wife Sandy, great-nephew Mason—all from Ashley, Ohio—as well as his beloved grandpuppies, Indiana Jean “Indy” and Eleanor Rigby “Ellie.”

Throughout his life, Al was passionate about history and enjoyed visiting significant historical sites such as Williamsburg, Monticello, Mount Vernon, and Washington D.C.. He also cherished family vacations to Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas, Dollywood, and the Grand Canyon, where he created lasting memories with Ruth, Nancy, and Eric.

Beyond history and travel, Al found joy in the outdoors, where he cherished tinkering in his yard and planting trees. He had a love for movies and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, often enjoying quiet moments spent watching his favorite films.

Al was recognized for his character; he was a man of few words, and when he spoke, his remarks were typically honest and witty. He leaves behind a legacy of fond memories for his family and friends.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and siblings Jack Snavley and Debbie Snavley, as well as his in-laws Bob and Grete Stephenson. A private family service was held in accordance with Al’s wishes.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the American Diabetes Association at P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023, to support those affected by this disease.

Arrangements for Al’s passing were made by Cremation & Funeral Service by Gary S. Silvat Inc. A television tribute honoring Al is scheduled to air on October 3, 2025, across various local channels at specified times.
