Hampton, Virginia – Betty Goad, affectionately known as “BeBe,” passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, at the age of 85. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. Goad’s legacy of unwavering faith and commitment to serving others has made a lasting impact on her community.
Born on July 22, 1940, in Shelmerdine, North Carolina, Betty was the youngest of six girls among eleven siblings, born to Agnes and Carl Harper. She is survived by her devoted husband, Henry Goad, and her two daughters, Cyndi Fisher (married to Brack) and Terry O’Boyle (married to Ken). Goad also enjoyed the love of her two cherished grandsons, Chad Fisher and Chance Toepper, and is predeceased by a multitude of siblings. One brother, Billy Harper, remains, along with his wife, Mary Ann.
Betty Goad was a dedicated member of Seaford Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she served in both the Women’s Ministry and Seniors Group. Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was well-known for her kindness and dedication to helping others. In addition to her church involvement, Betty was an active member of the Women’s Club and the Eastern Star in Hampton.
Having lived in Hampton, Virginia, for a significant part of her life, Betty was proud to be a graduate of Hampton High School. She retired from a fulfilling career at Fort Eustis, reflecting her dedication to service in both her professional and personal endeavors.
Betty cherished her annual family trips to Atlantic Beach, where she enjoyed traveling with friends and family. Her warmth, strength, and devotion have left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
The family has expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of support from friends and family during recent months. Special acknowledgment was made to friends Jerry and Lana Nichols, Donald and Karen Hair, and the Riverside Hospice team for their caring assistance.
A funeral service in celebration of Betty Goad’s life is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home in Smithfield, VA. Friends and loved ones are welcome to visit the family one hour before the service at the funeral home. Following the service, burial will take place at a later date at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
