Leading the charge was Gianna Dewey, who secured a notable second place finish at the Faye Bennett MAISA Women’s singles regatta, producing an outstanding performance marked by one race win and five finishes in the top five.
In this competitive event, Dewey was joined by her teammate Esther Ireland, who closely trailed her with a commendable third place finish, also achieving five top-five results. Arabella Duer added to the team’s success by finishing fifth, with four top-five finishes in her races, contributing to ODU’s overall strong performance at the regatta.
In addition to the Faye Bennett regatta, ODU’s Monarchs also displayed their capabilities at the Chesapeake Invitational, where they attained a fourth place finish overall. In Division A, the pairing of Marina Conde and Emil Body-Goldberg finished in 11th place, while the Division B team, comprising Blake Goodwin and Lindsey Kaufmann, placed 12th. ODU faced a challenging competition at the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships, where they ultimately placed ninth. The team’s Division A pair, Elizabeth Gildea and Katherine Barton, performed well, achieving a seventh place finish accompanied by four top-five finishes. In Division B, the crew made up of Megan Geith, Emma Friedauer, Allison Jeanne Volk, and Aliva Markham finished in 10th place with one top-five result.
Looking ahead, ODU Sailing has announced its fall 2023 schedule, which begins with the Laser South Regatta set to take place on September 9 in Annapolis, Maryland.
