Williamsburg, VA – The Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) is set to launch its new season on September 23, continuing the momentum built during its successful 40th anniversary season. Music director Michael Butterman has carefully curated a program to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, featuring a diverse selection of concerts scheduled to run through May.

This season will include eight concerts showcasing a range of musical works and prominent guest artists. Featured talent will include acclaimed pianist Natasha Paremski, renowned conductor Morihiko Nakahara, vocalists Alli Mauzey and Nicole Parker, violinist Amaryn Olmeda, and the Sandbox Percussion Quartet.

The orchestral repertoire for the upcoming season includes celebrated pieces such as Prokofiev’s Suite from “Romeo and Juliet,” Mendelssohn’s “Restoration Symphony,” and Respighi’s “Ancient Airs and Dances.” Additionally, the program will present works from composers such as Hanson, Dawson, Schuman, Mussorgsky, Sibelius, and Debussy.

The opening concert, a themed performance entitled “Prokofiev: Passion & Power”, will prominently feature works by Sergei Prokofiev and is set for September 23. A highlight of the season will be the specialty concert “Broadway Divas”, taking place on November 13, where Mauzey and Parker will perform popular songs from Broadway musicals.

The season will culminate in a closing concert titled “American Mosaic” on May 7, which will celebrate American music with a new composition by Grammy-nominated composer Peter Boyer. This concert will also incorporate projected imagery from photographer Joe Sohm, enhancing the audience’s experience as part of Virginia’s 250th anniversary festivities.

The planning for this season involved intricate coordination with guest artists and partnerships with other orchestras, reflecting the WSO’s commitment to delivering high-quality performances. Butterman, who has recently signed a five-year contract extension with the WSO, continues to impact the community through his artistic vision.

The WSO is currently engaged in the search for a new president and CEO to succeed Carolyn Keurajian, who has stepped down. This transition reflects ongoing changes within the orchestra’s leadership while maintaining a focus on providing enriching musical experiences.

For those interested in attending the upcoming concerts, in-person season subscriptions are available until July 31. These subscriptions include tickets to five concerts and a bonus concert featuring “Broadway Divas.” In addition, livestream subscriptions are also offered but do not cover the “Broadway Divas” concert. Single tickets for individual performances will go on sale starting August 1.

For more information regarding the concert schedule, ticket purchases, and additional details about the new season, interested parties can visit the WSO’s official website. The WSO remains dedicated to fostering a vibrant cultural environment and looks forward to another impactful season filled with exhilarating music and celebrated performances.
