Born on November 30, 1954, in Bedford, Virginia, Bernie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was the proud owner of B & W Contractors, where he not only managed the business but also served as a mentor and leader to numerous individuals in the area. His skills as a handyman were well-known, earning him admiration for his ability to fix just about anything.

An outdoorsman at heart, Bernie enjoyed fishing and hunting, particularly rabbit hunting, and he had a passion for dog training. He valued his time spent outdoors, often sharing the beauty of nature with those who shared similar interests. Additionally, Bernie had a zest for travel, frequently embarking on adventures with friends that helped create lasting memories.

Survived by Family

Bernie is survived by his devoted wife, Debbie Smith Wilson, of Toano, Virginia. He leaves behind sons Brian Lee Wilson and his wife Dori of Summerville, South Carolina, along with grandsons Baron and Alex Wilson. He also is survived by Lawson Delano Wilson, who resides in Hawaii, and granddaughter Mahealani Sargis along with her husband Benjamin of Boise, Idaho. Additional grandchildren include Makenzie Wilson of Middlesex, Virginia, Emma Schreyer of Williamsburg, Virginia, and great-granddaughter Ruby Sargis, all of whom will remember him fondly.

Extended Family

Bernie was preceded in death by several family members, including his father, Lawson Wilson; stepmother, Irene Wilson; mother, Helen Wilson Seward; and brother, Charles R. Wilson. His extended family includes brothers Joe Wilson and his wife De of Meherrin, Virginia; Tony Wilson and his wife Bonnie of Toano, Virginia; Michael Wilson and Paul Wilson of Rustburg, Virginia; and stepsister Gwyn Johnson and her husband Robert of North Carolina. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, De Smith of Williamsburg, Virginia; brothers-in-law Chris Smith and wife Katherine of Williamsburg, Virginia; and Tony Smith of Lanexa, Virginia. Numerous nieces, nephews, and many special friends considered him a mentor and leader.

Memorial Service

A service honoring Bernie Wilson’s life is scheduled for Friday, July 18th, at Bucktrout Funeral Home, with the time to be announced. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life and legacy, which will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on all who knew him.
